“Net global GHG emissions are projected to fall from 2019 levels by…43% by 2030 and 84% by 2050 in pathways that limit warming to 1.5°C (>50%) with no or limited overshoot.“
– Summary for Policymakers of IPCC AR6 WG3 Report approved by governments
Ape On Earth is a Singapore sustainability blog that offers advice, clarity, and inspiration for the climate conscious and climate justice seeker.
The world is legally bound by the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to well below 2, preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to pre-industrial levels.
Ape On Earth discusses the best known mitigation and adaptation strategies that will help reconcile the science-based Global Carbon Budget, which specifies that the world can only afford to emit a further 300-500 billion tonnes (Gt) CO2 from the start of 2020 (based on >50% likelihood of limiting warming to 1.5 deg C). This is an absolute budget, not an annual budget. There will be no other carbon budget. And there is no other Earth. (#noplanetb)
Although its focus is on Singapore, it hopes to inspire similar initiatives worldwide to cater for the unique circumstances of each nation.
It believes that Climate Change is best managed when each nation responsibly manages its own climate averages, based on its own pre-industrial characteristics.
And just like in the case of a cabin pressure emergency during a flight, it’s imperative that you put on your own mask first before assisting others. At the UN level, to keep hope alive means nations which can succeed in their transition faster, must rise to assist the others.
Solving the problem at home is just the beginning.
Time to engage your circle.
It’s not too late. Solutions exist.
“The Greatest Threat to Our Planet Is the Belief That Someone Else Will Save It”
Ape On Earth tries to envision an ideal climate activist, and casts aside all other interests, except to win more time, for us, and for our children on Earth. It hopes to inspire action that will avert the most devastating climate change effects, as they surface.
For the sake of a fighting chance at solving Climate Change: A Wicked Problem, stay open and give the content a chance to speak for itself. We may be further away from common sense than we think.
Although anonymous, its intention was never to avoid consequences but to provide the best probability for its content to be treated as party neutral, as much as possible. It is the founding belief that any prior disclosure of association with any party will lure premature allegations of bias.
Climate change issues will be best addressed innocently by a learned human whose chief enemy is the threat of the looming existential crisis should we fail to limit warming to 1.5 deg C. Yet, knowledge rarely coexists with innocence.
Ape On Earth may best remain anonymous until the wheels of change against climate change have gained critical momentum.
The much dreaded “Alien Invasion” is upon us, except that its face is Climate Change. May the sentinels in slumber amongst us awaken, and we will meet each other at the front lines.
