TIME LEFT TO CUT GLOBAL EMISSION RATE
TO 31B TONNES CO2-eq*/YR, BY 2030
LATEST GLOBAL EMISSION RATE: 59B TONNES CO2-eq*/yr
DOES CLIMATE CHANGE MATTER TO YOU?
* CO2-eq, not CO2 emissions. See below for methodology.

Methodology for CO2 Countdown Timer
- All GHG (CO2-eq) emission levels are based on emission data sources used by UN IPCC. References to IPCC emission data sources can be found on Ape On Earth’s Resources Page.
- Take note that CO2-eq is defined by the IPCC as, “The amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission that would cause the same integrated radiative forcing or temperature change, over a given time horizon, as an emitted amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) or a mixture of GHGs.” CO2-eq is different from CO2 as it includes other non-CO2 gases eg. Methane, Nitrous Oxide, et. al.
- For a >50% likelihood to limit warming to 1.5 deg C, IPCC AR6 WG3 Report projects that Global GHG (CO2-eq) emissions has to reduce to the following annual emission rates:
- 31 billion tonnes(Gt)/yr, by 2030
- 17 billion tonnes(Gt)/yr, by 2040
- 9 billion tonnes(Gt)/yr, by 2050
- Refer to the full table of IPCC projections, on Page “SPM-24” of UN IPCC AR6 WG3 Report’s Summary for Policymakers (note that table is marked as “subject to copyedit”, as of 14 Apr 2022)

(A reminder that we are not alone in the fight against Climate Change)
(Chorus)
This is home truly,
where I know I must be
Where my dreams wait for me,
where that river always flows
This is home surely, as my senses tell me
This is where I won’t be alone,
for this is where I know it’s home
